The property is located just east of the village of Kirkfield, Ontario and comprises some 100 acres of land. There is a mix of meadowland, forest and a beaver pond on the property, making it an ideal site for the camp.
Lions Clubs Camp Kirk is a camp for children with learning disabilities and is operated during the summer season by the Friends of the Learning Disabled.
The camp is for boys and girls ages 6 to 13 who come to the camp from many different communities. Last year our campers were from: Amherstview, Aurora, Beaverton, Bobcaygeon, Bolton, Brampton, Dawson Creek B.C., East York, Etobicoke, Forest, Greenbank, Harrowsmith, Islington, Keswick, Kingston, Kitchener, Lindsay, Lively, Loretto, Maple, Markham, Mississauga, Montreal P.Q., Napanee, Newmarket, Niagara Falls, North York, Oakville, Orillia, Orleans, Oshawa, Peterborough, Port Hope, Richmond Hill, Scarborough, Thornhill, Toronto, Unionville, Whitby and Woodbridge.
Lions Clubs Camp Kirk was developed and built by the members of the Lions and Lioness Clubs of District A-16 over a period of almost three years.
During this building stage, many clubs contributed the amount necessary for the construction of a cabin and their contributions are recognized by having their name on "their" cabin. In most instances, the contributing club also undertook the construction of the cabin. General contributions were used for the construction of other buildings such as the dining hall, washrooms, etc.
The Board of Directors, as shown on the next page, is drawn from the Lions Family of District A-16. Each member, with the exception of the current District Officers, is initially elected for a three year term. The current Chairman is Lion Carl Young, PCC of the Claremont Lions Club.
Funding for the Foundation comes from our Annual Golf Tournament, donations from Lions, Lioness and Leo Clubs and through the Lions Clubs Camp Kirk Fellowship program. The Fellowships are available for presentation to anyone but must be obtained through a Lions entity such as a club or district. They may not be purchased by individuals.
